Challenge The Outdoors, Inc. November 2015

PRESIDENT’S MESSSAGE - James Adamovich

We lost one hard working board member this past month; Jean Chapman will be greatly missed by CTO. There is another article in the newsletter about Jean and her dedication to the organization. * If anyone is interested in helping in anyway with Challenge the Outdoors please contact any one of the board members to sign up. * Remember ideas are also very much appreciated. * Some of our events such as the pheasant hunt, deer hunt, and banquet require us to know how many people will be attending so that we have enough food on hand. With that said, please sign up ahead of time as a courtesy. * It is a requirement that you sign-up for ALL CTO events. Enjoy the beautiful fall season.

Jean Chapman, 1940-2015 – David Paul

On behalf of the CTO members I would like to offer our condolences to Harland on the loss of his wife of over 50 years. I never saw Harland without Jean by his side in public whether it was Fleet Farm or preparing for the Deer Hunt. I have only been a member with CTO for 5 years but it was apparent that Jean knew what was going on with this great organization and she loved serving in so many ways. The week she passed away she shared with the board that she was going to be stepping down from many of the hats she wore as a member of CTO. It was then that we were all made aware of her many accomplishments. She was elected Treasurer in 2002 as well as editing and producing the newsletter that we looked forward to 6 times a year. The Chapman’s home became the office for CTO; she co-chaired the Sporting Clay Fund Raiser. Jean started and chaired the first membership meeting in 2004. She was also a on the board of directors serving as the Director. As we look back on her 13 years of service to CTO, I am sure many members can think of even more things Jean was involved in our organization as well as her community. On her final night as a Board Member a Resolution of Grateful Appreciation honored her for her 13 years of service to CTO. She will be missed but her impact will live on for generations.

Night at the Races -James Adamovich CTO had a cool night at the races. Fifteen members enjoyed watching and chatting about the races, it was a very enjoyable evening for those who attended.

Shoot Till You Drop-James Adamovich On September 22nd, eighteen shooters plus two other helpers enjoyed a beautiful fall day of shooting at J&H Game Farm. Steve out did himself in making fish for all who were there. Thanks to Diane and Joan for all their help. Everyone got to see the new black top to the five stand and the skeet shooting area. Mark you calendar for September 20th, 2016 for Shoot Till You Drop next year.

CTO DEER HUNT 2015- Pat Nieuwenhuis As always I would like to start by thanking all the people that helped to make this year’s Deer Hunt a great success. Now there is no way I could ever name all of you, but I want you to all to know how important you are because without all of CTO’s super volunteers this special Deer Hunt would not happen. This hunt is a 10-month effort with so many unseen faces that put in countless hours just so a few of us can go out and enjoy this early deer hunt. So I hope that all of the hunters took the time to thank as many of the volunteers as was possible, and please do not forget your landowners. Thanks to some beautiful fall weather for this year’s hunt we had one of our largest deer counts ever. Those lucky hunters who bagged a buck are Robert Stocking, James Adamovich, Pat Nieuwenhuis, Judy Paluch, Donald Johnson and Allen Wegner. Those hunters bagging a doe were Mike Taylor, Keith Pamperin, Mike Filipenko, Jim Lesselong, Randy Graham, and Gary Thyes, making a grand total of 12 deer for this season. Once again, thank you to all the volunteers, landowners and hunters. I hope everyone had fun, the weather was great, it was a safe hunt and many hunters did see deer, what more can you ask for? I would like to end by saying, “Have Fun, Be Safe, I hope to see you all next year and God Bless you all”.

Timber Rattlers lose a close game, but CTO members still had fun! By Peter Lathrop On Saturday, August 29th the Timber Rattlers lost to the Beloit Snappers 2-1. Despite the loss, 34 CTO members still had fun. The pre-game picnic that was prepared by the Rattlers staff was very good. For an added bonus Tammy Jack and Todd Weyenberg brought a birthday cake and served a piece to each CTO member. It was Todd’s 40th birthday! During the baseball game Joe Stutzman caught a foul ball. Way to go Joe! After the game many members stayed to watch the fireworks.
