Turkey Hunt—Judy Paluch: CTO partnered with the Clintonville Chapter of Shadows on the Wolf to mentor our disabled turkey hunters. Our mentors set hunters in good areas, made calls to lure the turkeys into the area with the hope of getting a chance to shoot a tom turkey, and then cleaned the turkeys so they were ready to take home.

The hunt started May 13th through the 15th with 10 hunters. Saturday morning the hunters headed out with their mentors for a morning of hunting. It was a bit chilly and even a bit of snow, but everyone was excited to start hunting. After lunch everyone headed back out for the afternoon hunt. Sunday was just a morning hunt. Rita Adamovich and Karen Baehr volunteered to do the cooking for all the hunters and what wonderful meals they made.

Out of the 10 hunters, four lucky hunters harvested their turkeys, and all were shot on Saturday. The hunters and mentors included:

Jim Adamovich—(Terry Dorschner-mentor) shot a turkey with a 12 ½ in. beard, ½ in spurs; Laurie Dubord—(David Wolff-mentor) shot a turkey with a 9 ¾ in. beard, 1 inch spurs; Keith Pamperin—(Bill Brady-mentor) shot a turkey with a 9 ¼ in. beard, ½ inch spurs; Kaley Wockenfus—(John Bonikowske-mentor) shot a turkey with a 9 in. beard, ½ in. spurs; and the other hunters and mentors are Mike Filipenko—(Greg Shermo mentor), Don Johnson—(Tony Gehr mentor), Tommy Narmore—(Tom and Ashley Lehman-mentors), Bob Schubring—(Paul Hoffman-mentor), Doug Thiele—(Norb Dallman-mentor) and Gary Thyes—(James Kriesel-mentor).

The turkeys all were nice sized at around 20 pounds each. Everyone was tired, happy, and they enjoyed every minute of the hunt. We want to thank our helpers and mentors for making the Turkey Hunt successful. We could not do this hunt without them.

Shooting Policy – Jim Adamovich:

A new shooting policy has been put in place to allow a maximum financial assistance per CTO member of $150 per budget year, regardless of whether the CTO member chooses to shoot as an individual or as part of a team (whether or not that team is sponsored by CTO). To qualify for this assistance, you must have been a CTO member in good standing for at least one year, or have received prior authorization from the CTO Board of Directors.

This policy covers, but is not limited to, archery, trap, sporting clays, skeet, rifle, and pistol shooting. Financial assistance shall cover ammunition, weekly shooting fees, arrows, etc.

All requests for assistance must be submitted to, and be approved by, the Shooting Committee. However, it is also recommended that any member applying for financial assistance for shooting should only ask for what they need, not the full amount.

End of Summer Outing-Rita Adamovich:

This event is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th, 2016 at the Outagamie Conservation Club. CTO has had three prior summer get together and each has been a nice outing for our members. This year’s location is going to be at The Outagamie Conservation Club located north of Appleton on Mayflower Road. We’ll have a map with direction in our next newsletter. We’ll be working with the fine folks at OOC to set-up great opportunities for everyone to enjoy, including; trap shooting, archery, pistol shooting and fishing for starters. We will have a meal, the main dish is provided by CTO and we ask you to bring a dish to pass. We really hope that our members who have wanted to try some of these activities in the past will now have a real opportunity to do so without feeling rushed. The grounds at OOC are very wheelchair friendly and there is ample parking and a very nice club house area that will serve our needs very well. So mark your calendar September 17th. The address is N3502 Mayflower Dr., Hortonville, WI.

Hope to see you there!

Board of Director 2016 Meeting Highlights—Judy Paluch:

APRIL 2016

The date of our Board of Director meeting is changed to the first Tuesday of the month, and the time is still 6:00 p.m. The meetings are split between three places and are in different areas to let the directors have a change in the driving distances. Check with the directors or check your newsletter to see where the meeting will be before you come.

We need a new grill. It has been fixed over and over and now it is broken. It was agreed that Jim and Bill will go out and buy a good grill. We use it at most of our events, so it has to be sturdy.

The motor for our pontoon will have to be replaced. Hopefully this will fix the problems we are running into. We are trying to get a grant to help with getting the motor for the pontoon.

MAY 2016

David Paul and Gary Vanden Heuvel had a booth for CTO at The Excel Outdoor Sportsman, a group gathering of sportsman from many areas. We got offers of 160 acres of land to use for the disabled hunt, duck hunt for youths, three college guys wanted to make a week-long camp for disabled youths, a guy wants to donate a crossbow for next year’s fundraiser, and Schmidt Oil wants to donate money to our organization. This is a way to get our name out to open up more opportunities.

Peter, Carl, and Jim went over the award rules and adjusted the money and a couple of rules. The complete set of rules is in the newsletter. Peter is our Award Administrator.

We awarded three Memorial Scholarships this year. Challenge The Outdoors, Inc. awards two scholarships each year and Harland Chapman is awarding one scholarship in memory of his wife Jean. Jean was our secretary for many years and helped the organization run smooth.

JUNE 2016

We had a discussion about putting the adaptive equipment in the trailer to make it easier for those in wheelchairs or those who can’t use their hands to shoot by using a mouth piece to shoot a deer or turkey. This is for all disabled members to use, but our assistant needs to be along, and it will not be given out to borrow. The truck is sent out to Escanaba for its equipment setup soon.

The pictures were made ready for the Turkey Hunt and sent to Bret to put up on the web page. Also the group picture of the Turkey Hunt with an article was sent to the newspapers.

We discussed that we needed to get more members to run for the directorship. There will be an article in the newsletter asking for helpers and disabled persons to sign up to become a director on the board and help make a difference. Half of the board right now is made up of disabled members.

Gary is checking the Pontoon for any more problems. The graph was disconnected from the battery and there was a side wall broken.

2016 Jean Chapman Memorial Scholarship Winner

Help for The Blind- for CTO Events---Judy Paluch: We are looking for volunteers to assist two members who are blind. They don’t go together but a ride is needed to and from the events, and then the person must stay with them to offer assistance in getting around and getting food during each event. The person will have to be with them all of the time like a friend helping them out. We were wondering if anyone (preferably a woman) could assist with helping out these individuals. It is hard to run the event and keep an eye on them and also to prevent them from just sitting there doing nothing. It would be nice if someone would take them as a friend into the family or as a buddy and help them out at each event so that they have the opportunity to get outside and experience/feel the outdoor world. Please consider this opportunity to make a difference in their lives. You can call us at our office and leave a message. Our phone number is 920-593-6300. The phone is answered by computer and just about every day I make sure the questions and messages are taken care of.
