I would like to Thank the Lord for a beautiful day. I can’t thank the volunteers enough for all that they did. We had over fifty volunteers with over four hundred shooters. This is what you can call a very successful fund raiser for 2015. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without the donations of the generous contributors of the raffle and door prizes that help to make this fund raiser a great success.

CTO can only be successful, if we all work together. I can not thank everyone enough for all the hard work that went into this years event.

CTO BRAT FRY - MAY 2ND Challenge The Outdoors will be hosting a brat fry on May 2nd at Colwitz's Convenience Store in Shiocton as a fundraiser and an excuse to have some fun. Colwitz's is on Hwy 54 just west of the bridge. The plan is to begin at 8am and serve until about 5pm. Hopefully there will be a lot of hungry people in town fishing for walleyes or watching the sturgeon spawn. If you are interested in helping for the day, or for half the day, please give Carl Gierke a call (920-986-3272). If you can't help, but are in the area, stop in and have a brat or a burger and tell a few fish stories.

We Need Your Help The CTO Board of Directors is looking for members to become directors. As a continued effort to serve it membership, we are looking for former, current, and new members to serve on the Board. No prior experience is required, just your wanted input and guidance. Since 1998, CTO Incorporated has seen tremendous growth in membership and activities. To remain a vibrant and member-driven organization, CTO needs you to consider serving on the Board of Directors. The Board of Development Committee is seeking nominations to fill 7 Director positions. A CTO Director is a current and good standing member of the organization. Directors will attend monthly board meetings and carry out assigned committee responsibilities. Directors understand the need to balance recreational desires and needs of people with physical disabilities along with the realities of managing a non-profit organization. MOST IMPORTANTLY, CTO Directors are people with a positive attitude, are objective decision-makers, and enjoy helping others succeed in CTO activities. The need for its membership to participate in the daily activities does not end there. We are also looking for the membership to help in the individual committees. To volunteer on a commit-tee does not require you to attend the monthly BOD meetings. You need to have a sincere desire to serve the membership and lead at the event. If you would like to make an event (Deer, Duck, Tur-key hunts Football, Hockey or Baseball events) better, please sign up to be a leader on the various committees.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to make this organization better than what it is now. The BOD is constantly looking for ways to improve, and we cannot do it without your input. 2015—LAKE MICHIGAN SALMON FISHING EVENT On July 11, 2015, we will be heading out on Lake Michigan for our Salmon Fishing event. Our boats will be heading out of Algoma Harbor at 4:00 a.m. and Two Rivers Harbor at 4:30 a.m. All gear is provided by the captains. Since there is limited room, you will need to make a reservation. We are just getting our boat captains organized, and the spots fill up early; so make sure to call in early. If we fill up, we will have a waiting list for any openings. Please call Judy or Wayne Paluch at 920-336-1934. If no answer, please leave your name and phone number; and we will get back to you to get your information for the reservation. This is a physically disabled fishing event only. I need to know what problem you have getting a round, so I can place you on the correct boat. If you would like, you can e-mail me at palj22@att.net. If you would like to e-mail me, I need your name (please print) address, phone number, emergency phone number, e-mail address, and which harbor you would like. (Algoma or Two Rivers). If you never were on one of the boats, I will be sending a sheet to read about what you will need, and one to fill out and sign and return to me. I will enclose a self-stamped envelope for sending the signed sheet back to me. I need this to establish your reservation. If you are going, you will need to buy a Salmon license and a Lake Michigan Salmon Stamp at the Department of Natural Resources or you can go online to get these items At DNR.com. They also have them at some sport shops and convenience store and gas stations. Call first to see where they have the items you need. You MUST have a license and Lake Michigan Salmon stamp to board the boat, there is a fine on each without these items; by the DNR if they stop your boat. If you have a personal helper, that person can join you, but they must also have a license and Lake Michigan Salmon stamp even if they don’t get to fish. Our Captains and First Mates are our help-ers and assist you with everything. I do have to know their name, information, and they have to fill out a form also. We will be eating in the 1st base picnic pavilion again this year. The Rattlers staff will setup ta-bles that are accessible for people in wheelchairs or scooters. Admission includes game ticket and an all-you-can-eat picnic (BBQ Grilled Chicken Breast, BBQ Pulled Pork, Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad, Dessert, etc.) along with two beverages. The picnic will be served at 5:00 p.m. and will last until game time at 6:30 p.m. The picnic will happen rain or shine. Rattlers staff will be handing out a player poster to the first 1000 fans to go thru the gates. Weather permitting there will be fire-works after the game. This event is open to all members. Guests are welcome, but will be responsible for buying their own tickets. Tickets cost $23.00 for adults/$19.00 for children 10 & under. The $5 parking fee is also your responsibility. 2015 SHAWANO LAKE FISHERY SATURDAY JUNE 6, 2015 Many residents and fishermen know we are on Shawano Lake this one time each year. We make quite a presence at the park and boat landing in Cecil. And—being there is what it’s all about. Outdoor folks sharing what we want most. Camaraderie and good will. In the past we’ve had various weather conditions. But we’ve never had a bad day. Sure we want to catch fish and we do. Folks sitting around enjoying a good meal and telling stories, mostly about fishing and the big one that got away is always a joy to hear. (By the way—it’s OK to tell tall tales on this day as long as it’s about fishing.) There is a Registration Form on Page 10 that must be completed and returned by May 30th so we can be sure of enough pontoon boats for all to fish. Drive to Cecil, turn right at the lake and we are at the park and boat landing a few blocks down. Try your best to be there before 8:oo a.m., have a sweet roll or donut & coffee. Bait will be furnished P.S. Don’t forget the Awards—be sure to have your big fish measured

6 Highlights of Board Meetings By Judy Paluch January 2015 The Board has decided to try phone conferencing for the directors who are disabled and have physical problems coming to the board meetings. It will take a few months to set up, but this will help us to have our full board at the meetings and their insight in on our work. Volunteers are working on getting the prizes together by going out to businesses and asking for donations for our Sporting Clay Fund Raiser. The committees are being set up and helpers listed for calling to help. We need all the help we can get to help on the day of the Fund Raiser and the weeks working up to that day. The time for the food serving is changed to 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for easier clean up. Please call if you are interested in helping with the Fund Raiser, it is how we get the money to fund our events for our disabled members.

The Wisconsin River Power Company thanked us for our help and the advertising for their dis-abled deer hunt.

Shadows on the Wolf Habitat committee want to thank us for all our wonderful support with their Annual “Learn to Hunt Group.” They had 43 hunters that attended last year. The people receiving newsletters now will be contacted individually, and anyone unable to be reached by phone, has a phone disconnected, or changed their phone to a cell and didn’t tell us, will be taken off the newsletter list. If you have gone to cell phone and didn’t call to tell us of your new phone number and still want the newsletter, you will have to write us or call us. This will be completed in May. Sporting Clay Fund Raiser is gearing up. We now have tickets for the Raffle. If anyone wants to help or has questions, please call us at 920-593-6300 and leave a message. CTO BEAR HUNT AVAILABLE Mr. James Umanski of Wausaukee,WI has graciously offered a wheelchair-accessible, guided bear hunt this fall for a disabled CTO member. Mr. Umanski has provided hunts to CTO members in the past, and we thank him for his generosity. The hunt would start on Wednesday, September 16th and continue through the 20th, if necessary. If a bear isn’t harvested, the hunter could return through about the middle of October. Baiting of sites would be provided, as well as lunch on the 16th (lunch for the hunter, not the bear), and the hunter can bring as many guests as he/she would like. The hunter would be responsible for transportation and lodging and would need to have a kill permit for Unit B. The hunt must be booked by June 15th, so if you are interested in hunting, or have a kill permit you could transfer to a disabled hunter, please call Carl Gierke (920-986-3272).

The 9th Annual Awards will be given out at the 2015 CTO annual banquet in the summer. Time frame to submit an entry for an award is from July 1, 2014 thru June 30, 2015. Procedures, Rules and Details: All the categories (Except Volunteer of the Year Able-bodied) entrants must have been a CTO DISABLED member before submitting an entry. The definition of a disabled member should meet at least 1 of the following requirements: Have a Class A or C hunting permit from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Holding only a DNR Cross Bow permit is not considered to be “disabled enough” for this awards program. Can only ambulate with the use of a wheelchair, walker or two canes or two crutches from a disability considered permanent. Is legally blind. Is missing a hand or arm regardless of using prosthesis. Is over the age of 70 years. Other individuals can become qualified on a case-by-case basis. Contact Awards Administrator. The CTO Board of Directors shall appoint a CTO Director as “Awards Administrator”. In this capacity, this person will oversee tiebreakers, choose award winners in the “Honor” categories and otherwise administer this program. A CTO disabled member can only win 1 of the hunting, fishing, or shooting categories in any one year. Enter as many categories as possible so you have a better chance at winning. A CTO disabled member can only win a Biggest Challenge Overcome Outside Award and a Deep Doo-doo Award twice, and Volunteer of the Year Award once for the life of this Awards Program. A CTO able-bodied member can only win a Volunteer of the Year Award once for the life of this Awards Program. Winners in these Honor categories might have their stories and photos published on our website and other publicity tools as are feasible. The winners will be notified of their Honors a few days before the banquet so they can prepare a brief presentation to the banquet attendees. The reason for this is to strive to show the group what a “real” winner does to gain such high recognition and provide inspiration for others to reach for similar achievements. Volunteers and others will be encouraged to remind or make entries for disabled members with or without the mem-ber’s knowledge. For example, boat captains on the Shawano Lake fishery will be advised to measure fish that might be award eligible. Award Categories: Biggest Challenge Overcome Outside: One year, a CTO member overcame his quadriplegia to hunt turkeys on his own. He set and reset his blind to get the best spot; he got in the blind and set up and after several exciting close calls was able to bag a turkey. Try and top that one to win. A person can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. Past Winners include Mark Baehr 2007, Steve Lang 2008 & 2012, & James Luedke 2008. Award = $75 gift cer-tificate to a Sporting Goods Store.

CHALLENGE THE OUTDOORS AWARDS PROGRAM From JULY 1, 2014 thru JUNE 30, 2015 7 8 Deep Doo-doo Award: For the CTO member who takes the biggest challenge in the outdoors while getting in a difficult situation. One winner was a wheelchair user who dropped a goose in a muddy cornfield and after his able bodied buddy could not find the goose, he crawled through the mud to find it himself. While the mud got washed off in a hot shower, the glow of the satisfaction of his achievement will last lots longer. So, get out there and expand your limits. A person can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone else. Past Winners include Steve Lang 2007 & 2009, Roger Mateer 2011, Keith A. Pamperin 2014. Award = $75 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Volunteer of the Year Able bodied: For the CTO member who best embodies the spirit of giving to help oth-ers enjoy the outdoors. A person must be nominated by someone else. Past Winners include Bill Mayville, Larry Zander, Karen Baehr, Rod Barkhaus, Tony Gehr, Gary Thyes, Carl Gierke, & Rita Adamovich. Award = $100 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Volunteer of the Year Disabled: For the CTO member who best embodies the spirit of giving to help others enjoy the outdoors. Award = $100 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Longest fish, by the following species: (length in inches) No photograph required, but it would be nice. Great Lake/Green Bay Trout or Salmon, Inland Trout, Walleye, Musky, Northern, Perch, Small and Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, White Bass, Catfish, Whitefish, & Rough Fish(Bullhead, Carp, Dogfish, Sheepshead, ect.). There will be one winner for the longest rough fish of all of the rough fish species. Award = $25 gift cer-tificate to a Sporting Goods Store for the longest fish in each species. Shawano Lake Fishery Longest Fish, by the following species: (length in inches) at the annual event. No photograph required, but it would be nice. Walleye, Musky, Northern, Perch, Small and Large Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, White Bass, Catfish, Whitefish, & Rough Fish(Bullhead, Carp, Dogfish, Sheepshead, ect.). There will be one winner for the longest rough fish of all of the rough fish species. Award = $10 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store for the longest fish in each species. Chasing Rainbows Longest Trout at Both Events: (length in inches) No photograph required, but it would be nice. There will be one award for each of the Chasing Rainbows events. Award = $15 gift certificate to a Sport-ing Goods Store. Biggest Whitetail Buck: Number of Points longer than one inch x maximum inside spread in inches. No pho-tograph required, but it would be nice. In case of ties or near ties, antlers will be re-examined in more detail by CTO Award Administrator. Award = $50 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Biggest Tom Turkey: Length in inches of spurs and beards. No photograph required, but it would be nice. Award = $50 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Top score for Disabled Shooter at the J&H Sporting Clays Fund Raiser: Bust the most clay pigeons and win. Top score = 50. Award = $50 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Top overall Trap Shooter: Top 3 rounds times the distance for the year. Top score would be a score of 25 times the maximum yardage of 27 yards times 3 = 2,025. Award = $25 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Top overall Skeet Shooter: Top three rounds for the year. Top score would be a score of 25 times 3 = 75. Award = $25 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Top overall Sporting Clays Shooter: Top three rounds for the year not including the J&H Sporting Clay Fund Raiser. Top score would be a score of 50 times 3 = 150. Award = $25 gift certificate to a Sporting Goods Store. Cost Sharing Program for Adaptive Equipment We know adaptive equipment can be a bit pricey so our hope, by creating this cost sharing program in December of 2004, was to help our physically challenged members offset that cost and encourage them to purchase their own equipment. Thus creating more independence for them. So far CTO has helped several members purchase adap-tive hunting equipment including crossbows and hand cranks, and an adapted gunstock. We are still waiting for the 1st adaptive fishing equipment request. For those unfamiliar with our cost sharing program here’s how it works. CTO will help our physically challenged members purchase adaptive hunting or fishing equipment by picking up to ½, but not to exceed $100.00, for the cost of the piece(s) of equipment 1 time per year. For example say Jane purchases a crank for her crossbow and it cost $150.00. CTO would reimburse Jane $75.00. To receive reimbursement for a piece of adaptive equipment you have purchased or to see if a piece of equipment you’re considering purchasing qualifies contact Jean or Harland Chapman. (920) 525-1123. *Note, keep your receipt and get a duplicate copy of the original because we will need a copy for our records. And if you re-turn the item please reimburse CTO. If you are looking for sources of adaptive equipment there are hundreds to choose from so shop around and check our website out for links to sellers and suppliers and as always please show patronage to the many businesses that have been so good to us over the years by giving them your and our busi-ness.

CTO PONTOON 2015 The CTO pontoon ( The Challenger) should be put in at the Cecil Dock on about May 1, 2015. This year we will be reserving the pontoon for the full day. Call Gary Thyes at 715-584-7700. If anyone would like to just go for a 2-to 3 hour site seeing tour into Washington Lake and then around the island just call Gary Thyes and see if there is a time he can guide you around the lake for a couple of hours. If you would like to go fishing for 3 hours call Gary—he will guide your group. To set up a time (but not too early in the morning because he really needs his beauty sleep) call 715-584-7700. Remember fishing is not the only place you need a good line. Also remember if you are disabled CTO will pay for your gas but you have to fill the gas tank when you are done, get a receipt and send CTO the bill for gas. If you have never taken out the pontoon you have to call Gary and set up an instruc-tion hour before you can take it out. Spring Pheasant Hunt 2015 Jim Adamovich On Sunday March 8th 2015 eighteen hunters came to the spring pheasant hunt along with nineteen helpers. Every hunter received two pheasants to take home. Joanne and Diane made a great meal for all to enjoy. We had nice weather and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all who helped and especially John Krumbly, Matt Ernst, Tayten Brunner, Bob and Jane Day for the four wheelers and golf cart, Rod Barkhaus and Carl Gierke for the dogs. The helper Tony Gehr and the mentors that came with each hunter are greatly appre-ciated. Thank you to John Kempen for the shells for each hunter. I hope to see every-one again when we have the fall hunt at J &H Game Farm. Mark October 25th, 2015 on your calendar. . .
