MARCH 2017 NEWSLETTER

www.ctoforme.org

President’s Message – Carl Gierke: CTO kicked off another year at our Holiday Party on February 18th. It was great to see so many people get together again and have some fun after dealing with weeks of winter. There were many familiar faces at the party, but several new and enthusiastic ones, as well. It’s always good to have new people get involved with CTO. Everyone seemed to have a good time visiting, eating, bowling, or playing cards. Thanks to everyone that contributed to making it another fun event. We discussed many things at the party, including our Sporting Clay Shoot / Fundraiser coming up on April 1st at J&H Game Farm near Navarino. This is an opportunity for all our members to help with an event that funds most of our activities throughout the year. Everyone has an opportunity to contribute in some way, whether it is selling raffle tickets, putting up posters advertising the event, collecting donated items for the raffles, or working at the fundraiser. We also need some help setting up on Friday (March 31st) and cleaning up on Sunday (April 2nd). If you’ve collected donated items for raffle prizes, please get them to Rita Adamovich by March 25th. Anything you can do to help is appreciated, as pitching in even a little means nobody needs to do too much. Contact Jim or Rita Adamovich, Karen Baehr, Tammy Kritz, or me if you’d like to help. Something else mentioned at the Holiday Party was that we received very generous donations the past two years from DaVita, a company with an office in Green Bay that specializes in dialysis. DaVita employees helped us at our Sporting Clay Shoot last year and did a great job. They will also be our first “Sponsorship” member, something we implemented recently. For a $200 annual Sponsorship fee, a business, organization, or individual can send any disabled person of their choice to any CTO event (a different disabled individual can be chosen each time, if the sponsor chooses). We think it’s a great way for businesses and organizations to get their employees or members involved in CTO’s many events, so help pass the word. Thanks so much to DaVita for their support and we look forward to your involvement! We also have many events coming up soon, including our Spring Pheasant Hunt, Archery Shoot, and Turkey Hunt, just to name a few. Check out the Events Calendar in this newsletter to see what fits into your social calendar and let the event coordinator know if you’d like to attend. Thanks to everyone for all your hard work and for all you do to make this a great organization. See you at a CTO event soon! Annual Fundraiser at J&H Game Farm – Jim Adamovich: It’s already time to start thinking and planning for our biggest fundraising event of the year. Our annual Sporting Clays Fundraiser will be held at J&H Game Farm on Saturday, April 1, 2017. J&H Game Farm is located at W5810 J&H Road, Shiocton, WI. Please mark your calendars and come out with your family and friends to take part in making this event a great success again this year. The success of this fundraiser goes a long way in determining what we as an organization can accomplish throughout the year and helps fund the many hunting, fishing and other outdoor sporting activities we provide that help get more people outdoors. The Fundraising Committee is seeking assistance from all of our members and friends to help make this fundraiser a success! In particular, we need help selling raffle tickets, collecting raffle prizes, and helping with the day of the event. If you have any questions, please contact committee members. Thanks in advance for your help and support!

3 Board of Directors Positions - Carl Gierke:

CTO is seeking individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. Anyone interested must submit a short resume giving a description of their work history and experience and why they would like to be considered for the position to Carl Gierke by April 30th. This will enable applicant’s resumes to be published in the next newsletter and to be evaluated and voted on by members at the annual meeting in July. Terms are for one, two, or three years. Directors are asked to attend monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month and contribute their ideas and assistance to help CTO provide recreational opportunities to disabled individuals. It’s a great chance to use all those skills you’ve acquired over the years, meet some new people, and help make a difference. Hope you can join us!

Spring Turkey Hunt - Tom Narmore: In May of 2017, Challenge the Outdoors is teaming up with Shadows on the Wolf for a spring turkey hunt for our disabled members. We are able to take approximately ten hunters and the hunt will be from May 19th through May 21st. Lodging for the hunt will be provided at the Christus Memorial Camp located just outside of Clintonville. Food will also be provided throughout the hunt; however, we will be doing a potluck dinner on Friday evening. Since we are limited on the number of participants we can accept, we will be giving preference to those who have never turkey hunted and to those who have not harvested a turkey. If you have forgotten to send in for your spring turkey permit application, you can still purchase one over the counter sometime near the end of March 2017. Make sure you obtain a tag for Zone 3 period E if you would like to participate in the hunt. Please contact Tom Narmore by email narmore1988@yahoo.com or call at (920) 410-4436. (Please leave a message).

List of Upcoming Board of Director Meetings - Judy Paluch: All meetings begin @ 6PM and fall on the third Tuesday of each month, March 21, April 18, May 16-Muehl Library at 436 N. Main Street, Seymour, WI 54165, 920-833-2725

Blizzard Game- Steve Lang: We will again have the opportunity for CTO members to attend an indoor football game to watch the Green Bay Blizzard. The opponent this year is the Iowa Barnstormers. This event is limited to the first 18 members that sign-up, due to limited disabled seating at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The game is May 6th at 7pm and tickets will be handed out one hour before the game. Please contact me early to get your name on the list if you wish to attend. I will confirm if you are one of the first 18 people to get in on the list. If you are not one of the first 18 people, I will put you on a waiting list and see if a spot opens up for additional people. There will also be a $5 concession card given to each attendee with their ticket. To get on the list, or for information, please email Steve Lang steve71099@yahoo.com or call my cell at 920-948-4847 (leave message).

Chasing Rainbows – Cliff Pheifer: On Saturday, June 10 and Saturday Aug 19, 2017, Chasing Rainbows will be held at Wilderness Springs Trout Farm, located west of New London on HWY 54 then right on Madden Rd. Timber Rattler’s Baseball Game- Peter Lathrop: Timber Rattlers (Brewers affiliate) vs. Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins affiliate) When: Sunday, August 6, meet outside of stadium by 11AM. Where: Fox Cities Stadium,2400 N. Casaloma Drive, Appleton This event is open to all members and tickets are courtesy of CTO. Guests are welcome, but will be responsible for buying their own tickets. Tickets cost $21.50 for adults/$17.50 for children 10 & under. The $5 parking fee is your responsibility. The game seems a long time away, but I know some people like planning their summer vacations months in advance. We will be eating in the 1st base picnic pavilion again this year. The Rattler’s staff will setup tables that are accessible for people in wheelchairs or scooters. Admission includes game ticket and an all-you-can-eat picnic (Brats, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad, Dessert, etc.) along with two beverages. The picnic will be served at 11:30 a.m. and will last until game time at 1:00 p.m. The picnic will happen rain or shine. On Sundays the Timber Rattler players wear Brewers-themed jerseys and sign autographs after the game. The deadline to reserve your ticket(s) is July 22nd, so reserve your ticket(s) ASAP or you may miss out on a fun event! To reserve a ticket(s) contact Peter Lathrop or Carl Gierke. Spring Archery Shoot – Brian Hess: Set your calendars for Saturday, April 15th 2017 for the CTO sponsored 3D Archery Shoot at R&B Archery. The shoot will start at 10:30 a.m. and go until about 2 p.m. with pizzas for lunch. R&B will have some foam bale targets to practice and they have a bunch of 3D targets of all sorts of different animals - from carp to caribou and everything in between, with the different animals ranging from 10 yards to 44 yards. This is a great opportunity for anyone that wants to try to shoot a crossbow for the first time, or if you are a seasoned veteran that just wants to keep on top of his or her game with a little more practice. R&B is fully accessible with a concrete floor for easy wheeling. CTO will have on hand a couple crossbows, arrows and shooting rests to try out. If interested, please contact Brian Hess at 920-864-7954 (leave a message if no answer) or email abhess@centurytel.net before April 15th 2017. As always, we need volunteers to make this event run smooth and to make it the best ever. R&B is located at: W5251 Pleasant Rd. Black Creek, WI which is 6 miles north of Appleton and just east of County Hwy. A. Their phone number is 920-213-4016.
