SPECIAL DEER HUNT OCT. 3-11, 2015

We will be having a Pre-Hunt meeting again this year similar to the past couple years. The meet-ing will be on Saturday, Oct.3, 2015 at 10:00 am. This is the first day of the hunt. Lunch will be served and we will get you out for the afternoon/evening hunt. This year’s hunt will once again be head-quartered at the Lessor Town Hall in Landstad. To reach the Town Hall from the South, take Hwy 47 out of Black Creek for about 13miles to Landstad Rd (Ye Old Plow Shop) and turn right or to the east. If coming from the North take Hwy 47 and head South about 5 miles to Landstad Rd and turn left. The Town Hall is less than a quarter mile and will be on the right side of the road. If you are reading this and have not yet talked to Pat Nieuwenhuis (920) 687-8707 about signing up to hunt, please do so NOW! The dead-line for contacting Pat is Aug 29, 2015 – No Excep-tions Please!! Starting in early September, we will once again be needing help with inspection and repairing blinds, setting them out and taking them down after the hunt. Volunteers are also al-ways welcome and needed to assist with the actual hunt. We have had great helpers in the past. Remember we can’t pull this off without you. Please call Pat Nieuwenhuis at 920-687-8707 if you can help. If you are willing to help, we’ll sure try to find something for you to do.

CTO End of Summer Outing at Outagamie Conservation Club Sept. 19th

Our plans are coming along very well for our end of summer outing. We met with the OCC mem-bers at their August meeting and have set-up a very nice event for our members. While there are a few details still being worked on here’s what we have set-up so far. The date is set for Saturday, September 19th and will start at 10 A.M. and run the event until early evening ending with a camp fire. Lunch will be served at 1 P.M. and we will have some snacks for afterwards and for those coming later or for those sticking around into the evening. No end time is set be-cause the very accommodating folks at OCC are very willing to be flexible in the planning of our event schedule. So hopefully many of our members stick around for the campfire. If there is no interest in having the campfire we will end the event at sunset. So, what else will OCC be offer-ing us at this outing? We’re glad you asked! We will have trap shooting with CTO picking up the cost of a round or two for those taking part. If you do not have a shotgun OCC has a few that will be available to borrow. You are welcome to bring you own shells or you can purchase 12 or 20 gauge shells there for $7 a box. CTO will pick-up the cost of 1 box of shells purchased at OCC for use at the outing and or we may have our own shells to give out. We hope some of our members who have wanted to try trap shooting take advantage of this great opportunity as there will be plenty of time and instruction if needed. If you would like to show-off some of your adaptive shooting equipment and or give instructions to a new shooter that would be awesome. Please con-tact Rita to let her know you are available to help out. The pistol range will also be available to anyone interested and you are responsible for bringing your own pistol and ammunition. Targets will be supplied but you may bring your own if you wish. Archery shooting will be available and OCC has a crossbow or 2 to loan out and we will have at least 1 of our crossbows available as well. There will be fishing at the stocked pond that will be catch and release only unless the fish is deep hooked and won’t survive. Bring your favorite rod and tackle. We will provide live bait and you may bring your own as well. We hope to have a fly fisher or two to demonstrate fly fish-ing for anyone interested in learning a new skill. The pond is stocked with trout, panfish and Lg. mouth bass. The terrain is very flat around the pond and the entire OCC grounds for that matter, so getting around will be fairly easy but you may want to bring a power scooter as the activities are spread out. As for food CTO will be making the main meat dish and I’m sure it will be great whatever our cooks decide. All those attending are asked to please bring a dish to pass! There is nice club house for serving the meal in and an open bar to purchase beverages. CTO will be providing water only. We will have some cards and available for anyone interested. This is a rain or shine event and is open to all our members and we hope you and your family can make it a great day at OCC! So, come out and participate in any and all the activities you wish to or just come out and enjoy in the social interaction. We are really looking forward to this new location at OCC and think it will be a great place to enjoy the many activities the fine folks at OCC are offer-ing and it gives a chance to our members to learn a new skill or two as well and hopefully opens more of our great outdoors to all who are willing to try something new and exciting and see what all that the OCC has to offer throughout the year. Strategic Planning committee We would like to hear from all members about the Good and Bad things CTO does for the mem-bership. Some members have said they would like to have more social events, (Blizzard, Timber Rattler Games) others have stated that they would like to see more fishing events. Whatever the request is we would like to hear from you. Even if you did not like the way an event was held in the past. We would like to hear about the concern. We want to make CTO better for everybody. Please feel free to contact Keith Pamperin at (920)494-3990, kjpam-perin@aol.com or Chuck Duffeck at (920)378-3519, chuck@cbduffeck.com.

Cindy and Roger Mateer along with Jeff and Jane Pagels pulled their own machines to use while others used vehicles provided free of charge by local off road sporting goods stores. The event was sponsored by a sister organization of CTO called “Adaptive Sportsmen, Inc.” head-quartered in the southern part of Wisconsin. This annual event is held at a wheelchair accessible resort owned and managed by John Stratte and his wife, Cheri. Pine Forest Lodge offers accessible but rustic cabins, trails, pontoon boat, kayaks all on the shores of Spider Lake. The required $30 event registra-tion fee covered all food and lodging costs except the Thursday night meal. The pace of the ride was quite fast, but event organizers promise that next year, those that want to go slower and enjoy the scenery and wildlife will get a chance to do so. CTO members logged in about 70 miles through and around huge mud puddles because of recent rains. Roger reports that it took him and Cindy 5 hours to clean off the dirt from their ATV’s. Jeff decided to let Mother Nature do her thing with rain to gradually wash off the mud. Beside Adaptive Sportsmen volunteers the event could not have happened without the help of the Wis-consin ATV-UTV Association and specifically Greg Olsen. For information on next year’s event con-tact Al Neu at 414-617-4870 or aneu@adaptivesportsman.org

CTO PONTOON 2015 The CTO pontoon ( The Challenger) should be put in at the Cecil Dock on about May 1, 2015. This year we will be reserving the pontoon for the full day. Call Gary Thyes at 715-584-7700. If anyone would like to just go for a 2-to 3 hour site seeing tour into Washington Lake and then around the island just call Gary Thyes and see if there is a time he can guide you around the lake for a couple of hours. If you would like to go fishing for 3 hours call Gary—he will guide your group. To set up a time (but not too early in the morning because he really needs his beauty sleep) call 715-584-7700. Remember fishing is not the only place you need a good line. Also remember if you are disabled CTO will pay for your gas but you have to fill the gas tank when you are done, get a receipt and send CTO the bill for gas. If you have never taken out the pontoon you have to call Gary and set up an instruc-tion hour before you can take it out.

LAKE MICHIGAN SALMON FISHING EVENT RECAP By: Judy Paluch On July 11 around 4:30 a.m., four boats headed out of Two Rivers harbor and five boats headed out of Algoma harbor to fish for King Salmon. There were 24 disabled fishing persons and two helpers that took part in the day of fishing. The boats slowed down and the captain and first-mate started setting out the gear. The boat ride was a bit cool and the setting of the fishing gear is really exciting to watch. In no time, we had a rod goes off and a fish is on. Each person in turn gets a chance to catch a fish. Be-tween the two harbors, we caught 17 Salmon with a few Trout mixed in. Though the catch was small everyone that wanted fish received some, because we share the fish among all the fishing people at each harbor. The biggest fish caught was by Alexander Gerarden in Algoma, a 36 inch Salmon. It was disappointing that everyone didn’t get a chance to catch a fish, but there is always next year. Fish-ing is a guessing thing sometimes. Our captains helped us to make many people happy, they are: Kevin Naze—Wild Times, Brian Frerk—Drill Sergeant, Jimmy Sullivan—Fishin’ Magician #1 and #2, Aron Thomas—Nemo II, Roger Meyer—The Toy Box, Steve Bergner—The Rainbow Chaser, Rob Ste-ber—Karen Marie, Rick Klockenga—The Loner. We thank them very much the use of their boats and their help.
