It is another New Year and we are working hard on the 17th Annual Fundraiser. The information will be coming soon or you my have already gotten it. We will appreciate all the help we can get to make this years fund raiser a great success. This is the only fund raiser we do so we may have all the activities we have throughout the year. I am asking if you can help a little or a lot it is very much appreciated by all that come and enjoy the events that we have. If you sell ticket, ask for a donation, help the day of event, hang posters, set-up on Friday in the afternoon for the shoot, come and participate in anything that makes this CTO event a success. Our calendar of events is on the web site and will be in the newsletter. We have a lot of great things planned this year and we hope that many of you are able to come and enjoy these events with us. It’s always great to just come, sit and talk to one another, enjoy some great food and the outdoors.

Spring Pheasant Hunt J & H Game Farm Shiocton, WI. 54170 Sunday March 8, 2015 8:00 A.M.- ? This event has become a very popular event. We have coordinating birds in the fields, dogs and handlers, machine operator, back-up shooters, cleaners and baggers, great food and just a great day to get to know other CTO members and listening to the stories. Each disabled hunter will be allowed two pheasants. If you have a favorite recipe and like to share bring it along. If you don’t have your own gun, there will be guns available at J & H Game Farm (2 miles west of Navarino) for you to use. Shells have been donated by John Kempen, 12 gauge and 20 gauge. Each hunter is welcome to bring family members, or a friend to assist them, but only the disabled CTO member is allowed to shoot. Food is being made by J & H Game Farm, which is always delicious. Don’t forget to sign up by March 5th, 2015 if you are going to be part of this hunt. Also if there is any question. 17th ANNUAL SPORTING CLAY FUNDRAISER J & H GAME FARM, NAVARINO APRIL 11, 2015 This is the only fundraising CTO does to run all the programs offered to the members and it is important that more get involved in the preparation, the event day itself and the follow up duties. Please contact any of the directors on the last page to volunteer. See poster on page 10 for more information. Again, this year we will not be sending raffle tickets in the letters sent in the mail. Check your let-ters as to the way to purchase tickets in advance. Of course we would like to see all of you at the event to enjoy mingling with the shooters that make our organization so much better. Let’s all work together to make this year a good one. We had a banner year last year so let’s all work together to make it the same. ATTENTION — Notice the date, it is a week later than our normal time due to the fact that Easter falls on the first weekend in April. Spring Turkey Hunt May 16-18, 2015 CTO and Shadows on The Wolf are planning a spring turkey hunt for May 16, 17 & 18 for its dis-abled members.. Lodging for the hunt will be at Christus Memorial Camp located a few miles from Clintonville. We will be accepting approximately 10 hunters and giving preference to 1st time hunters and to those who have not harvested a turkey. 2015 LAKE MICHIGAN SALMON FISHING EVENT On July 11, 2015 we will be heading out on Lake Michigan for our Salmon Fishing event. Our boats are out of Algoma Harbor at 4:00 a.m., and Two Rivers Harbor at 4:30 a.m. All gear is pro-vided by the captains. Since there is limited room, you will need to make a reservation. We are just getting our boats to-gether again, and the spots fill up fast, so call in early. Please reserve only if you like to get up early to fish at 4:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. If we fill up, we will have a waiting list for any openings. Please call Judy or Wayne Paluch at 336-1934. If no answer, please leave your name and phone number; and we will get back to you to get your information for the reservation. This is a physi-cally disabled fishing event only. I need to know what problem you have getting around, so I can place you on the correct boat. If you would like, you can e-mail me at palj22@att.net. I need your name (please spell), address, phone number, which harbor you would like, how you get around and emergency phone number. I will be sending everyone a sheet to read, fill out, and sign and I will enclose a self-stamped envelope for sending it back to me. I need this before I can es-tablish your reservation. If you are going, you will need to buy a license and Lake Michigan Salmon Stamp at the Depart-ment of Natural Resources or you can go on line to get these items. You MUST have a license and stamp to board the boat, there is a fine by the DNR. If you have a personal helper, they can join you but they must also have a license and Lake Michi-gan stamp even if they don’t fish. I do have to know their name and information, and they have to fill out the form also. I will send you information on what else you may need and directions if you need them. 2015 Chasing Rainbows Spring Saturday, June 27, 2015 Fall Saturday August 29, 2015 Chasing Rainbows will be at Wilderness Springs Trout Farm, located west of New London on HWY 54 then right on Madden Rd. No fishing license required or size limit on trout, with a two fish limit. Fishing will start at 9:00 am, at Wilderness Springs Trout Farm. Please bring your fishing poles, secret lures, and dish to pass for lunch. Cane poles, bait, cleaning, and packing on ice will be provided. We will be eating in the 1st base picnic pavilion again this year. The Rattlers staff will setup ta-bles that are accessible for people in wheelchairs or scooters. Admission includes game ticket and an all-you-can-eat picnic (BBQ Grilled Chicken Breast, BBQ Pulled Pork, Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad, Dessert, etc.) along with two beverages. The picnic will be served at 5:00 p.m. and will last until game time at 6:30 p.m. The picnic will happen rain or shine. Rattlers staff will be handing out a player poster to the first 1000 fans to go thru the gates. Weather permitting there will be fire-works after the game. This event is open to all members. Guests are welcome, but will be responsible for buying their own tickets. Tickets cost $23.00 for adults/$19.00 for children 10 & under. The $5 parking fee is also your responsibility. 3-D ARCHERY SHOOT——APRIL 18, 2015 Challenge The Outdoors has set the date for our Indoor 3-D archery shoot for Saturday April 18 at R&B Archery (920-213-4016). Located at: W5251 Pleasant Rd. Black Creek, WI.,R&B is located about 6 miles north of Appleton and just east of County Hwy A. All CTO members are invited to attend and shoot a round with CTO picking up the bill! We will be having pizza for lunch at 1 p.m. The shoot will be from 10:30 a.m. until about 4 p.m. R&B Archery will have foam Bale targets to practice on, 3-D targets of every sort with every crit-ter from carp to caribou and everything in between ranging from 10 yards to 44 yards and a fun trick target or two. R&B will have a few youth bows on hand as well. The range at R&B Archery has a concrete floor to allow easy wheeling and is fully accessible and offers a great opportunity for anyone to try their hand at archery. So if you have never shot a bow before or it’s been a while this is a great opportunity! CTO will have adaptive equipment available including crossbows with arrows and shooting rests. Highlights of Board of Directors Meetings By Judy Paluch October The Board of Directors decided to get a phone conference system to help our directors that miss the meetings because of the many times they have problems with their disability. The Board of Directors is talking about getting directors from this year and other years plus some inter-ested members to a few Brain Storming sessions. Brain Storming will address problems, how to improve events, and how to increase interest to the members for more participation. There are more things that we will address that may help us to improve. We need people that will get into the discussion and debate some of the suggestions. If you do have a problem to discuss, something that you would like to see done, or a new change to help us, and you don’t want to spend five or six hours in a discussion; please send your suggestions by e-mail to cto-forme@yahoo.com or call us at 920-593-6300 (our office phone) and leave your name, reason you are calling, and your phone number. We will call you back in a day or two. Our phone at our office is checked twice a day for voice mail. Make sure to pronounce your phone number slowly and clearly. Carl Gierke, Chuck Duffeck, and a few others are checking out places that are good for duck hunting. Possibly we will have a duck hunt as one of our events. This is in the planning stages, but it is nice to look forward to a duck hunting event. We need a nice area that have ducks coming in quite often and permission to go on the land before we can do anything. November The Sporting Clay Fund Raiser Committee is starting to put the fund raiser together. The Fund Raiser will be held on April 11, 2015. The Directors are requesting donations from local businesses for prizes for the Main Raffle and the Bucket Raffle. This will take a few months to pull this all to-gether. If anyone is interested in helping us get prizes for the raffles, call our office at 920-593-6300; and, if we miss your call, please leave a voice mail and we will get back to you in a day or two. We have a few people that have been forgetting to pay their dues. On your newsletter (on the front) your date for paying dues is on there. For those that are getting the newsletters through e-mail, we will have to get together by phone. Either call our office at 920-593-6300 or we will call you. The cost is $20 a year for a (single person), $30 a year for a family (with children at home under 18 years old living at home. Some exceptions.) There are also lifetime memberships. December Pat Nieuwenhuis demonstrated a shooting stand for your gun or crossbow. It can be used for shooting a gun or crossbow, or just to hold the gun or bow while you are waiting for that deer to come into view. It is $80 plus shipping and you can use our Adaptive Equipment Helping Hand to reduce the price in half up to $100 maximum. That would be around $40 off the $80. A GREAT HOLIDAY PARTY By Judy Paluch Thankfully we didn’t have bad weather on January 24th for our party this year. As the people came in you could heard nothing but delight. We had 65 people join us for the day bringing wonderful dishes to pass and big smiles. Karen Baehr and Rita Adamovich prepared a wonderful and delicious dinner; and, with the ad-dition of everyone’s dish, our meal became a great buffet for all. Harland Chapman sang a few songs for us and gave the day a bit more of joy. Peter Lathrop lead the prayer of Thanksgiving before the meal. After the meal, Carl Gierke helped with our drawing for the Challenge The Outdoors shirts and stocking hats. The winners were quite happy with their prizes. Many people headed to the bowling alley for a few lines of bowling, some played in a Cribbage tournament that Wayne Paluch put together, of which Jim Adamovich won, and the rest helped Jean Chapman fold let-ters for our Fund Raiser mailing and shared the day with friends. Everyone had a wonderful day. I want to thank all those that helped put this party together and all the people that came to enjoy our day together. Also thank you to all those that brought a can or box of food for the food pantry.

Challenge The Outdoors Incorporated Memorial Scholarship Program for 2015 Recipients: Individuals living in Brown, Calumet, Green Lake, Kewaunee, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, Wau-paca, Waushara, and Winnebago counties in Wisconsin. A Challenge The Outdoors member may also be a recipient and it does not matter which county in Wis-consin he or she lives. Eligibility: A potential recipient must be: - An individual with physical challenges pursuing a post-secondary education Or - An non-disabled individual pursuing a post-secondary education toward a career working with persons with physical disabilities. Award: - $500.00 payable to the Technical College or University where the recipient is enrolled. - CTO Inc. will award two scholarships to a different recipient each calendar year. - Scholarship is presented to the recipient at CTO’s Annual Banquet following completion of the recipient’s first year of post-secondary education. Criteria: - High School GPA of 2.5 or above. - Disabled applicant pursuing a post secondary education. - Non-disabled applicant enrolled in a post-secondary degree in areas such as Special Education Teacher, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapist, Recreational Therapist and other areas of study involving the physical rehabilitation of persons with physical disabilities. Cost Sharing Program for Adaptive Equipment We know adaptive equipment can be a bit pricey so our hope, by creating this cost sharing program in December of 2004, was to help our physically challenged members offset that cost and encourage them to purchase their own equipment. Thus creating more independence for them. So far CTO has helped several members purchase adap-tive hunting equipment including crossbows and hand cranks, and an adapted gunstock. We are still waiting for the 1st adaptive fishing equipment request. For those unfamiliar with our cost sharing program here’s how it works. CTO will help our physically challenged members purchase adaptive hunting or fishing equipment by picking up to ½, but not to exceed $100.00, for the cost of the piece(s) of equipment 1 time per year. For example say Jane purchases a crank for her crossbow and it cost $150.00. CTO would reimburse Jane $75.00. To receive reimbursement for a piece of adaptive equipment you have purchased or to see if a piece of equipment you’re considering purchasing qualifies contact Jean or Harland Chapman. (920) 525-1123. *Note, keep your receipt and get a duplicate copy of the original because we will need a copy for our records. And if you re-turn the item please reimburse CTO. If you are looking for sources of adaptive equipment there are hundreds to choose from so shop around and check our website out for links to sellers and suppliers and as always please show patronage to the many businesses that have been so good to us over the years by giving them your and our busi-ness.

CHALLENGE THE OUTDOORS--FIELD GRANT PROGRAM VOTED IN MAY 20, 2014 The Field Grant Program is designed to aid physically challenged members of Challenge the Outdoors, Inc. to ex-perience once-in-a-lifetime outdoor hunting or fishing events, not otherwise afford to attend that special event. Field grants stipulations are… Retroactive for those who already received grants from the beginning Physically challenged members only Maximum of ($200.00) Maximum of three (3) times in a life time Only one in a year, for fishing, hunting only membership dues must be paid up completely from first date joining; have to pay up missing years Be a member in good standing cannot apply for a grant unless you are a disabled member of Challenge The Outdoors, Inc. for one full calendar year must turn in receipts of the hunting or fishing trip before receiving the Field Grant Money; all receipts including hunting or fishing license or receipt from outfitter from out of state. Money will be paid after receipts are turned in and checked out at end of trip Money sent by mail and please write a short article on your adventure for our newsletter. A Field Grant will not be awarded to an individual for participation in another organization’s event if Challenge The Outdoors, Inc. already conducts a similar event. The Field Grant Committee and Board of Directors can con-sider an exception under special circumstances. Persons that have received funds under the Challenge The Out-doors, Inc. Field Grant Program are not eligible for another Field Grant to participate in the same type of event in the future. For example: A disabled member of Challenge The Outdoors is awarded a field grant to hunt Prong-horn in Wyoming. This member may not apply for another Field Grant to hunt Pronghorn in the future, and this means not in any other State or Country. We have white tail deer hunting here. To be eligible to receive funding through this program, you must apply and fill out an application at least two months before you plan on leaving. You must be a disabled Challenge The Outdoors, Inc. member for at least one calendar year before you can apply. We need your application given to the Board of Directors before or at our next meeting, and then it will be given to the Field Grant Committee to make its decision on the application. The application will be discussed at the next Board of Directors meeting. Meetings are once a month. No precedents are set by the prohibited use of the Field Grants for Badger Games, Bowling, Clay Pigeon shooting or any other non- allowable use that has happened in the past. Wisconsin River Power Company is seeking applications for their 2015 Deer Hunt for Disabled Hunters (October 9-11, 2015) Each year WRPCO sponsors the 3-day gun deer hunt in early October at the Petenwell Wildlife Area located on the Wisconsin River between the Peten-well and Castle Rock hydroelectric project reservoirs near Necedah in Central Wisconsin. ThePetenwell Wildlife Area is a parcel of land, approximately 750 acres in size, which has been set aside by WRPCO as a wildlife refuge. The majority of the area is per-manently closed to other hunting activities. Any hunter with a Wisconsin Class A disability per-mit is welcome to apply. Applications for each year's hunt need to be received by June 1st. Successful ap-plicants for the year's hunt will be notified by June 30th.
